Get Involved: St. Mary's Church Re-Use & Renewal
November 21, 2011
What is your vision for re-use of the former St. Mary’s parish buildings in Dubuque (1584 White Street)?
If you'd like to voice your ideas, concerns, or just sit in on the discussion, Duane Hagerty, a graduate student pursuing his Master of Science in Historic Preservation at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, wants to hear from you. There will be two opportunities to participate:
6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011
10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2011
Both meetings will be open to the public and located in the St. Mary’s church building at 1584 White Street, Dubuque. The content of both meetings will be the same. Each meeting is expected to last approximately 90 minutes.
St. Mary’s parish was an anchor on the north side of Dubuque. While the closing of St. Mary’s was a great loss to the city and to the Washington Neighborhood, the memory of St. Mary’s glorious past and the beautiful structures that remain provide a unique opportunity to create something that could once again be a strong asset to the community and a catalyst for renewal of the neighborhood.
If you'd like to have your voice heard, please RSVP by November 28, 2011 by emailing Duane Hagerty at DuaneHagerty@gmail.com. Download an informational flyer here to hang in your business or distribute to anyone who may be interested. Or click "read more" for more information:

First Ever BLT Day at Farmers' Market!
August 3, 2011
What is the quintessential summer sandwich? In Dubuque, it’s the BLT (that’s bacon, lettuce, tomato, for the uninformed.) On Saturday, August 6, we will celebrate the peak of summer produce with our first ever “BLT DAY!” Vendors are being encouraged to use this opportunity to promote their products related to BLTs: bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and bread!
We are also celebrating the 12th Annual National Farmers’ Market Week (August 7-13). In 2000, United States Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack proclaimed the second week in August as National Farmers Market Week. Since 2000, the number of farmers markets across the US has grown 150%, from 2,863 markets to 7,175 in 2011.
Several of our awesome vendors have stepped up to the plate (pun intended!) and will be serving up BLT's this Saturday. You'll be able to try theirs AND purchase everything to make your own!
Dubuque Area Flood Resources

Dubuque has received record levels of rainfall and experienced severe flash flooding on July 27-28.

The phone number for the assistance center is 563-552-4178.
The Jule public transit will be operating a special shuttle from Comiskey Park to both centers for residents needing transportation to the centers. In addition residents needing other assistance are encouraged to call Project Concern’s Information line by dialing 211. (From www.cityofdubuque.org).
